  • Re: Grace period after expiration of F-1/OPT to leave the US

    Hi,

I had a question regarding how long you are allowed to stay in the US after the expiration of your F-1/ OPT (EAD).

My F-1 visa expired on August 07 2002 but I had been given authorization for my OPT until August 28 2002. I had been told that there is a sixty day grace period with-in which to leave the US - does this only apply if your visa is still valid. I am asking because I left the US on September 8 2002, 11 days after my OPT authorization expired and 1 month after my F-1 visa expired. Will this affect the chances of me obtaining a new visitor's visa?

    Thank You for your answers.

You are fine. Yes, there is a sixty day period after the OPT exiration date for you to leave the US. The visa stamp on the passport is irrelevant here.

The chances of getting new visitor visa will only be determined by your new application.
