Working after finishing studies

Ive been offered the chance to study in the USA at several colleges, i live in the UK and i want to go and study in the USA then hopefully live in the USA. The F-1 student visa says i would have the intention to return to the UK after i finish university which i would not, so am i right in assuming i have to apply for an F-1 visa and then the only way i could live in the USA is if i get a job and then get some other type of visa or employment green card?

Or is there a visa which allows me to study in the USA and then live there afterwards? because effectively i would be risking getting a degree and being sent home where it would not be recognised?.

Student visa is for study only.

You will have to get work visa or something like that to be able to work afterwords.
