  • Change F2 visa to F1/J1

    Hi all
I have completed my Ph.D. from India in 2008 and was looking for postdoctoral positions. Recently, i received a positive response to join a lab in U.S., however the problem here is with my visa status. I am on F2 visa. I have a couple of questions.

    1. Since i am no more a Ph.D. student in India as i have received my degree. So is there any possibility of geting my F2 visa to get converted to J1 so that i can join the position here? And if not

    2. Or converting F2 visa to F1 or any type in which i can join the position?

    What will be the procedure?

I would really appreciate if anyone can help me out.

    Best wishes
    SK

You may convert to J1 or even H1B if the Lab is a cap exempt employer. Read about it. You need not wait until Oct 1.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
