The embassy in Washington DC last week renewed my passport but now it is valid for only 1 year because they haven't yet received verification from India (my pp was issued in Nagpur).
I am traveling to India next month and need F1 stamped in the pp for 5 years as I am coming back for a PhD. Does the us consulate issue visas that are valid longer than the passport that holds it?
If not, can I get my passport renewed in India under Tatkal scheme? If renewed in India, will the passport office now seek verification from Washington DC because this passport was renewed there?
Please advise. By the way, to clear any confusion, I am currently on H1 and switching to F1 starting this fall.
