I completed my undergraduate degree in Aug 2008 and had a job offer by then. My EAD card arrived only in Oct and i started working the week after i received it. The company i was working for applied for my H-1 in April and it was approved. In June the company laid me off and started the process to revoke my H-1 visa.
With the new F-1 rule regarding "unemployment more than 90 days results in loss of F-1/EAD", my legal status expired Aug 17 and I must make plans to depart the U.S.
Well, I really want to do so! However, my Indian passport is damaged and I submitted it to the CGI Houston for a replacement passport on Sep 9 and my passport has been with them since.
Im assuming in need to leave the U.S. before Oct 16 to avoid complications in future dealings with USCIS but the CGI Houston does not seem to give a damn.
Is there something I can do in the meantime to let USCIS know of my case and my intent to actually leave? I really dont want to go out of status.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!
