My Case: was on H1--got admit to the univ,. Got the I-20 and the change of status from USCIS...but my visa stamped is for H1,..i need a visa stamping for my F1 status...

I am half way thru my college and i need to get my visa stamped for Exchange courses....
No date are avaliable in Canada/.... Can i go to Mexico and get it stamped??? Is it Safe????? Do they do the switche from H1 to F1?
