    F1 to H1

    I am currently on a F1 visa. I am doing my 9-month internship on CPT and plan to apply for OPT after that. My current internship site employer expressed interest in sponsoring my H1. Can I go ahead with H1 application without OPT application first? When applying for H1 - is it necessary to hire an immigration lawyer?
