  • Urgent - F1 queries

    Hello,

I have been admitted to the MBA program in the US and have sufficient funds for I20.
    I have the following questions:

    1) I'm currently working the US and have amount in USD in the bank. Can I send an official bank statement to the university for issuing the I20 form ?

    2) After I receive the I20 form, do I need to pay the SEVIS fees ?

    3) During the F1 visa interview, will the visa officer ask me about how will I fund my studies for the second year ? I'm asking this because, I have sufficient money to fund my first year but do not have much for the second year. I'm now working on it. Can it be a problem during the interview ?

    4) I do not have any sponsors or property in my name in India. Whatever money I have earned till date is because of the six years of work experience that I have. Can I tell this to the visa officer ?

    5) I am planning to take loans to fund my second year during the first year of study. Can I tell this to the visa officer ?

    6) What are the proofs of funding / money that the visa officer might want to see ? I do not have any property in my name. My father has a house in his name in India and I have a few savings like insurance and saving certicates apart from the Rs. 5 lakhs bank balance. Can I show this ?

    7) Do you think my F1 visa will be denied based on the above circumstances ?

    8) What kind of "ties" can I show ? How to show it ?
I have my parents in India. Can I tell them that I am planning to come back to take care of them ?

    Thank you.

    Yes

    Yes

Yes, they can ask for that. You can show it with non-liquid funds such as property, shares, jewellery or any other means. Solid immovable assets in home country are also good for showing ties to home country.
    4) I do not have any sponsors or property in my name in India. Whatever money I have earned till date is because of the six years of work experience that I have. Can I tell this to the visa officer ?
Yes. It is up to you how you show ties to home country. You have to show why you will return to home country after finishing studies.
    5) I am planning to take loans to fund my second year during the first year of study. Can I tell this to the visa officer ?
Yes, truth is a very good thing to tell.
    6) What are the proofs of funding / money that the visa officer might want to see ? I do not have any property in my name. My father has a house in his name in India and I have a few savings like insurance and saving certicates apart from the Rs. 5 lakhs bank balance. Can I show this ?
Yes, you should show this. In fact show some of your father's funds for getting the I-20 itself and ask the school to enter your funds as "Family Funds" in the I-20.
    7) Do you think my F1 visa will be denied based on the above circumstances ?
Nobody can tell that. You must try your best.
    8) What kind of "ties" can I show ? How to show it ?
Property, family, job, strong conviction, confident and truthful answers.

I have my parents in India. Can I tell them that I am planning to come back to take care of them ?
    Yes
    Thank you.
    All the best.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Thank you, your answers really helps !
I do not come from affluent family of India. We have little assets such as a house worth 15 - 20 lakhs. Not much jewelry.
My father has retired two years ago. So cannot ask my father for help !
I'm waiting for some financial aid from Uni but this won't happen till July 2010.

      My another question:

I am currently working in the US on L1B visa and have been here for the last 3 years. I have been to India on vacation twice during my 3 years in the US.
The university will send me the final amount in April that I need to show for the I20. I'm planning to remain in the US till 10 may 2010 so that I can earn some more money.
I'll leave US on 11 may 2010 and start the visa process first by paying the SEVIS fees, paying visa fees at HDFC and then filling out the DS 160 form.
After which I can take an appointment with the visa office for F1.

My question is, can the visa officer ask me that I have already lived in the US for 3 years and then by applying for F1 Visa, I'll plan not to return to my home country after completing my studies. What is the justification that I should give ?

Can I tell him that my assignment got extended and could not leave it mid way ? Can I also tell him that I could earn more money to fund my studies as I do not want to depend on my parents ?

      Please let me know.

      Thank you once again.
