HI I am on OPT and wish to start a IT consulting firm along with a partner who is on H-1B. We both doesn't want to work for the company but we are just investors. My question is it legal for a person on OPT (F-1 visa) to start an LLC. How should the year end tax filing be? Help needed urgently. Can anybody help me on this. Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think you can actually start the business if it s related to your filed of study. But, did you consult an attorney. I have the same issue too... I am in my OPT rite now and wish to start an export business along with some one who holds a green card. I spoke to few Immigration attorneys regarding tis. Wat they told me was, If your business partner is eligible to start a business, they can sponsor the visa for you, if you biz partner can prove that, you and your education is necessary for the company. Let me know if you have any other ideas for me..
