Coming in F2 (H1-F2 COS delayed)

I came into US in F2 (visa valid until 2013) and I changed my status to H1 in Oct 2009. However, I have not gotten a H1 stamping yet.

I have applied for a change of status again from H1 to F2 in mid-Jan. However, I have not heard from USCIS yet.

I want to go out of the country and come back in F2. Do I have to get F2 stamping again?

Is it possible for the border officials to inquire about my H1 status? I don't have paystubs from Jan-Mar.
