I've completed a Master's in the US and am currently working on STEM extension OPT. My company applied for an H1B for me and it was approved wef October 1st. I have always been serious about completing a PhD and am planning to go back to my advisor (at a UC school) and work with him on extending my Master's research, I could not secure funding until now. My plan is to file for a change of status from H1B to F1 within the US and start my program in April next year. However, I am worried that this might affect any future travel outside the country for me, essentially stranding me for the duration of my PhD. Does any one have any suggestions/ similar experiences?
