Dear All,
I need help with some doubts that I have. I am currently doing my OPT after completing PhD studies. I am a post doctoral fellow and the institute where I am currently employ only sponsors J-1 visas. They employer has agreed to file for a J-1. However, I have been told that it takes 6~8 months to get a J-1 in the US. Does anyone know if this is indeed true. My OPT expires on 8th January 2011.
Also, is it a better idea to go to my home country (India) and get a J-1 from there or should I get it done in the US ?
I am reluctant to apply for J-1- when I go on vacation since I will be there for a few days and not sure if they will be able to issue the J-1 that fast.
Would appreciate advice.
Best regards.
