My wife & I appeared at the American Embassy (Islamabad, Pakistan) on 29th March 2010 for our student visas (F1 for myself & F2 for her). After the interview the Consular officer informed that our visas have been approved but will be issued after “Administrative Processing”. The reporting date on the form I-20 is 16th August 2010.
On 13th April 2010, we received back through the courier service my wife’s passport with the stamped F2 visa for 5 years. I still await my passport.
My question is: How is it possible for a F2 visa to be issued while the principal F1 visa has not been stamped. Isn’t a derivative visa dependent on the principal visa being issued?
