F1 visa in 221g administrative processing - pink slip - Chennai Consulate

Hello, I had my F1 visa interview on December 4th at Chennai Consulate, was given the pink slip and was asked to submit the documents. I was asked questions about the school and about the work I did in L1 visa which was related to cockpit displays. The consular officer was amicable and was like I will hold on to your passport and mentioned to submit it as soon as possible so that they can process it soon but it is still in administrative processing. I had to make my ticket an open ticket as I was supposed to travel 22nd December. My classes start on 10th January. Please let me know if anyone else knows how to follow up, that would be great too.

I am sceptical if I would be able to make it the date of school.
