Hi,
Here is my current situation.
1. 2001-2005 - F1 - Top 20 Undergraduate University
2. 2005 (Oct) to Date - H1 - Big 4 Consulting Firm
3. Second visa to expire Sept. 30, 2011
4. Assuming I switch to F1 as of 8/1/2010, I have 1.9 years available on my H1B including the addback from PTO and Leave of absence
5. Received admission in top 10 MBA school for Fall, 2010 for a 2 year program
6. In the process of obtaining the necessary paperwork for F1
Questions:
1. Should I apply for change of status or go out of the country and apply for F1?
2. If I travel, how much time before the program start date can I enter in as a student?
3. I am an Indian passport holder, do I have to go back to India or can I go to Canada or Barbados or Germany?
4. With the time left on my H1-B (1.9 years), after I graduate, will employers be hesitant to hire me?
5. Will employers be able to file for my green-card with the time left on my visa? Does the time I work on my OPT count towards the one year minumum for employers to file for my greencard?
I am quite nervous about this and any insight you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
