I-539 Question

To whom it may concern:

We currently have a student who has a I94 and a I20 form in order to attend school. The I94 has an expiration date of "DS" and the I20 form is for 6/10/10. The student has a flight back to her home country for June 30th. We are in the process of filling out the I539 for the extension; however, Immigration Services has told us that should she apply before 6/10 for the extension that she could not go home to visit. If she applies say 6/12 can she still go back to her home country and wait to see if she gets the extension or are we wasting time even filling out the I539 form because we filled it AFTER the I20 expires on 6/10?

Also, should we be able to fill out the I539 on June 12th, is there a penalty in terms of cost for her being granted a new I94? Also, is there an approximate time frame for how long to expect the I539 to be completed. The reason I ask about time frame is because we have to start thinking about return date for airline ticket and for when she will be able to start school.

You need to apply for extension before 06/10/2010. However, that I-94 extension would only be up to the time he is in the country, that is till Jun 30.

I am trying to fill up application for I-539 on-line, however, A# is required to be able to continue, where can I find A# for B2 visa? Thanks
