    Here is my dilemma.
I am transferring from University A to University B. I have been studying in the US since 2007. My F1 visa expires aug 2012. I just got my I-20 from University B and on it it says course to be completed no later that august 2013. Now I am going to India which is my home country next week. and coming back a month later. Will this I20 pose a problem at the airports on return.

And how can I extend my F1 VISA and how long does it take

You are fine. You need a visa only when you wish to enter the US. If your SEVIS id has not changed, you can use the same visa to enter. Within the US your I-20 and I-94 determine your status.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
