I found myself in grave financial distress last year due to the pandemic. I felt obligated to accept a teaching position, for which I was paid $1600 in total (over several months). I suspected that working off campus (without OPT) was not allowed, but didn't know what else to do. Today, I received a 1099, which I assume the teaching company will also send to the IRS. I have several concerns.
Will Homeland security find out that I worked off campus?
Will earning the small sum of $1600 result in my deportment--even though I earned it out of desperation, homeless and unable to return to the country of my citizenship?
Will I be able be disqualified from receiving future F1 visas, or other kinds of visas?
Will this mistake effect my chances of receiving a Greencard in the future?
Is there anything I can do to make this better, or to avoid the worst case outcomes?
Thank you very much for any guidance or insight you are able to provide.
