  • which has less risk:F2 or F1?

    Hi,
I am on F1 and just got married. But my wife is currently in India. She is also trying to get admissions into the universities here.I wanted to know which is the better option. To try for an F2 or an F1 for her? Suppose if she comes here on F2.Is it easy to convert it into F1?
    Will appreciate the replies.
    Thanks.

    Hi!

I entered on an H4 and then converted to an F1. I wish I had waited till such time that I had directly got an F1. If you actually have the F1 stamp in your passport, it is much easier to leave and re-enter the country as you please.

While converting from F2 to F1 shouldnt be a problem, and can be done without leaving the US itself, I would advise you to wait till such time that your wife gets the F1 visa. THe wait might be hard, but it will be well worth it as there are fewer hassles later on, especially after you want to change your status once you are done with graduate school..

    Good luck!
    Radhika.
