  • Continuing PhD student 221(g)

    Hi all.

I am a continuing PhD student in the US. My old F1 visa expired last year so I had to get a new F1 stamped this year when I visited India.

I had my VI in Hyd on the 12th of Aug and was issued a 221(g). I was given a questionnaire and asked to submit my resume and current status letter. I am still awaiting the result of my admin processing.

I have heard from a few people and read on other forums that the current processing time for applications in Hyd for F1's is about 2-3 weeks. This is week 3 for me. I am booked to fly out on the 4th of Sep and am hoping to get some good news by friday.

If other people have similar experiences, please update so we can get an estimate on the current processing times.

    Thanks.

May I know why you were given 221g? I believe you might have already shown all the required documents at the VI itself including resume and status letter. Why they want to cross check all these? You might be doing Ph.D in an accredited institute only. right? so whats their prob? I heard this same thing from one of my friend from HYD.
