F-1 renewal with OPT please help.

Hello, Good morning. I am a student in USA currently on F-1 + OPT. My F-1 expired on Sep,2009. My OPT has started from Oct 2010. Presently I am employed for Oct-Nov2010 on OPT. I will have to go to India in November end. There is some urgency and I can not avoid this trip. I have a new job offer as postdoc which is continuation of my research in a different university starting 1st January,2011.
Now if I apply for F-1 again with valid OPT and appointment letter starting January,2011 what is the chance that it will not be rejected? My advisor in the international office said that since OPT is added benefit to F-1 student status I should apply for F-1 again and there should not be any problem. Please help!!!

I am in the exact same position and would like to know how your F1 re stamping went on OPT. Any thing specific that we need to avoid or mention during the interview process?
