Visa approved during interview but on Administrative Processing for over 10 days now

I interviewed on July 15 and was told that my visa has been approved. I was not told I would be put on administrative processing, nor was I handed a 221g slip. My passport was retained.

It's been 11 days now and my CEAC status continues to read "Administrative Processing".

What could be happening? Would this be resolved soon or could it get stuck in here for months? My program starts soon and I'm supposed to fly out mid-August to make it in time.
