am currently a Graduate student in the USA, and writing this mail for advice and suggestions on how to proceed further regarding my VISA status. I am a Veterinarian in India and had to go through a License examination to practice in North America. I have cleared the writing part of the exam which is the North American Veterinary License Exam ( Aka NAVLE ). The next step would be a 3-day practical exam called the Clinical Proficiency Exam ( CPE ) comprising 8 subjects. The problem is I cannot be a licensed Veterinarian and cannot file for H1 status unless I clear that exam. The exam is exhaustive and the retake dates would not be available for 1.5 -2 yrs down the line which would trim out my OPT period and H1 chances as I have been granted 3 years of OPT.
The alternative option would be PAVE program - An evaluated clinical rotation program (CRP) which is a 1-year course. Immediately after completing this, I would be granted the license and I need not go through the CPE exam as I have completed the NAVLE. PAVE - CRP requires an F1 visa and would be granted 1 year OPT after completion of the program. I had enquired about the CRP program and got a reply that it is not considered a Graduate or Master’s Program. It is a non-degree-seeking program. We will issue you a certificate after you complete the program. You will not be “enrolled” in OSU through the Registrar’s Office but only through our department via contract.
My VISA information :
VISA date: 06 June 2022 to 01 June 2027
My Queries :
1) Will my 3 yr OPT be cancelled if I join this program?
2) What would be my options if my H1 is not picked?
3) Do I need to get run the payroll to maintain OPT immediately after graduation as I am planning to graduate this December?
3) Can I join PAVE program in this OPT period or will I be issued a new I-20?
