  • F-1 Health related question

Hi everyone, hope you are doing good.

I have a very quick question. I am a prospective student who has received admission to a university in the US. I also have received the I-20 in my hand and will be initiating the visa process soon. I had heard that the US immigration or the universities require for some health check-up prior to entry into the US.

My question was, are there some vaccinations that need to be done as a F-1 student? Also, do these vaccinations need to be done before the visa application? And finally, should we be getting the US health insurance before the visa application or we can get that after entry into the country. Not sure about these topics.

Just a few doubts I had. I really appreciate your response.

Thanks and have a good day.

Which university and program are you planning to attend?

Universities have vaccination requirements and some other screening requirements, check with their international office (who issued you the I-20) if they have any forms that you or your Doctor needs to fill. If there are any vaccinations left you need to take those before you register for classes. Some schools even give you a 1 semester waiver to fulfill this requirement.

Many universities have their own student health insurance plans and if you buy an outside plan you need to get a waiver from the university. It is recommended that you buy a plan that pays directly to the US physician.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

      HI Kabkaba,

Thanks so much for your reply. I will be getting in touch with them. But my question was if these vaccinations and health requirements are required for the application of student visas. Or can they be done after the visa process? That was my confusion.

      Thanks once again.
