Do I need to update Marital Status in my passport before going for a Visa

I came to the US on a F1 visa in 2007 and got married in the US in 2009. I am going to go to India next month and will need to go to the visa interview to get a F-1 renewal. I have not updated my passport from single to married. If I fill my status in the DS-160 form as married and my passport says single when I go to the interview, will it be a problem ?

Do I need to update my passport before I go to the interview or can I do it after the interview as well ?
