Need advice regarding name on passport, I think I majorly screwed up.

Here are the facts:
1) I got my passport in Goa, where my college was. According to my passport, Surname is blank and Given name is 'ABCD EFGHIJKL'
2) Got my I-20, According to that: First name is 'EFGHIJKL' and Last name is 'ABCD' (This is how my passport should have been)
3) I have paid my sevis fee
4) I have booked my visa date on 7th July(First name: FNU, Last name: 'ABCD EFGHIJKL'

Today I went to my local passport office and tried to get an observation. He said they will need to get a police verification from Goa before anything can be done.

What do you suggest I do?

You should continue with your appointment and get the visa with FNU. But, it will cause problems for you later.

If you can wait, you should get your name changed with surname and first name separated. (Even if it is not really your surname) and then apply for the visa.
