  • F1 Visa # Sevis Cancelled # Need help

    Hi

    Need help !!
I am on F1 visa and completed two semesters in a university.
I went to India and my Sevis is cancelled due to GPA issue.
I entered US with same I20 and SevisID.
meanwhile i received another new I20 when i was in India and joined new college in US.

The question # Does this impact in future when apply for H1B or CPT/PPT or generally???

    Please help...

From what you tell, you entered using previous school's I-20 and you are now attending another school. Did the school's complete SEVIS transfer? What is the status of your SEVIS record right now? You are in complicated status issues and should talk to your school's DSO and then if possible an attorney.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

What is approved? Did you do a SEVIS transfer or not?

          Here is sequence of events:
          --------------------------

          1) On F1 visa and went to India for couple of weeks in summer
          2) School informed that they are going to cancel my SEVIS ID
          3) I applied for another I-20 and entered US
          4) At port of entry...I showed my existing I-20 and entered into the country

          Questions:
          -----------
Do my F1 visa should be map to new school?
Do I need to go out of country and comeback with stamping again?
or Just go to out of US like Mexico and Enter US with new I-20?

Thanks in advance....i am under lot of tense.

Have you started attending the new school? Have you reported yourself to the new school's DSO and have they registered you in SEVIS? Does your SEVIS record show active status? You need to talk with new school's DSO and get answers to these questions.

My new SEVIS is registered and active but i am yet to register for courses.

Only worry is that my I-94 is based on previous i20 not sure whether new school accepts or not.

If new school says, get I-94 based on their i-20 .....can we go to airport port of entry and request to issue new i-94 based on new i-20?
Do we run into issues if we go to airport port of entry?

              Thanks for your quick response...

You need to leave the US and return with new school's I-20 in order to get a new I-94. Then visit the new school's DSO (international advisor, office of international education etc.) and they will enter your name in their system. Ask them if they registered you in SEVIS as a new student, once that is done your F1 status is valid and you can register and start attending classes.
This is serious issue and you can consult an experienced immigration attorney about it.

Which schools old and new are we talking about here btw?

                    Hi kabkaba

Your replies are helpful and insightful.

We contacted the school (International Services)...
They are asking to go out of the country by registering in the classes.
Like go to Jamaica and re-enter with new I-20 (continuing studies).

There is a risk that if there is a problem ...we might lose the fee.

                    Any thoughts on this workaround...
