OPT got cancelled before h-1Approved

Hi,

I had my valid OPT till May-2012. but recently my employer filled my H-1. So last week of September I got email from my university that my OPT end date has been changed to Sep -30-2011 from May 2012, due to my h-1 filing which will be effective from Oct- 01-2011.

And now my status is, I have my h-1 PENDING and my OPT got CANCELLED. So my question is, Can I still work?

Yes, you can work. It will be beneficial to upgrade the H1 to premium though.
