Can I travel outside USA after getting H1B approval?

Hello,

My employer is going to file H1B petition for me this April. My OPT expires Jan 2013.
My question is
Can I travel outside USA before Oct 2012, on my OPT, after my H1B gets approved?

I hope the question is clear but please let me know if you need more information.

You can travel and return with F1 Visa, but that will void your approved change of status to H1. So that is not recommended.
If you do travel, obtain H1 Visa and return on or after Oct 1.
