Some one please help
I am applying for my change of visa from H1 to F1. I just got my -20 and my classes start Aug 15.
Do you think I will be able to make it on time if I send it now? What if I do it the new electronic version? Will it be faster?
They intern. student office told me if I don't get it before classes start I wont have an assistanship. And since I have been on H1 for 5 years, I am scared that they will reject if I go to the visa consulate in India.
Please advise.

Some schools do not require you to be on F-1 from the 1st day of classes to accept assistanships. They will accept you depending on how many days into the semester this is. Anyway, you should speak to them, if possible, and confirm how long they can wait for you.
I feel the eelctronic version takes longer because your form reaches first and the supporting documents reach later. Then everything needs to be put together. I did the paper application. I would say, send it ASAP. You may get it by August 15,if all goes fine, If not plan the next steps. Can you get the assistanship from the next semester? You need to figure out options.
Good Luck

In the new electronic system, you can scan and upload all the documents.
Do you think I-539 can be filled by myself or do we really need a lawyer to fill it? I feel the e-version will be faster.

You do not need a lawyer for I-539. Pretty straight forward form. The school also helps with it. I would suggest thst you start working on it and post back/search this forum for answers.
Good Luck!

But on my new I-94 (on I-797. extended my H1), the expiration date is Dec 2013. So should I put the new I-94 date or should I put the old date?
I am uploading both the the old and new forms together so that they don't think my I-94 expired.

I would think that you have to use the new I-94 details. I say this because if you use the old expiry date, they may reject your application since the status has expired.

Hi,
I need some information from you. Could you tell me what is the amount that we must have in the form of cash (liquid assets)? Is it equal to 100% of I-20 amount?
What is the amount that universities mention on the I-20? the total fees + living expenses for 1 year?

Hi Guys,
I am in the same boat. Got my I 797 approval on 4th june with approval date of 31st May but till now no I-20. My school is asking for origina I-20 and I dont have it till now. I logded a service request but they denied saying they have stopped endorsing I-20s. I ahve just recently changed my course and its getting very difficult for me to attend the school since they need stamped I-20 to issue me new I-20.
Any one got their original I-20 back after 1st June 2012???

My DSO is waiting for direct communication from USCIS. She said for the ones who did paper filing USCIS should return the original I-20. Only people going for ELIS will not get their I-20s.
Also, did you notice no where has it mentioned on USCIS site .. what happened to people who already did their filing before this ELIS put into being...there is no clear mention thats the reason there are lot of speculations...anyhow we can not do much but wait....
