  • H1 vs F1

    Hi There,
Currently completing 5 years in H1B visa & planning to study masters degree as a part time.
After 6 yrs on H1B, can I need to convert to F1 visa?
After the completion of course, can I apply for H1B for 3 yrs (totally 6 yrs)? or I have to leave the country for one year?

    Thanks in advance!

If you continue to study in H1 status, you will need to keep working (maintain H1 status).
When you have completed 6 years of stay in the US in H1 (and L1) status, then you will need to change status to F1 and stop working at that time.
Staying in the US in F1 status will not reset your H1 clock and give you fresh 6 years, you will need to spend 1 year outside.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
