  • question on DS-156

    Hi,
I want to apply for F-1 visa and I have a question regarding Question 37 in DS-156 form about whether "Any of The Following Persons in The U.S., or Do They Have U.S. Legal Permanent Residence or U.S. Citizenship?"
I have only a step-brother (legal permanent resident) living in US, but no brothers or sisters nor any other relatives living in US. Do I have to mention that I have a brother in US ?
My problem is that I had applied for the visa once but was rejected. I had mentioned I have no brothers/sisters in the form. I am now getting some financial assistance from my step-brother and which I want to show to the consular officer when I reapply for the visa. I need to disclose the relationship with the sponsor. Since I had mentioned that I have no brothers, I am not sure what is the best thing to do. Please advise.

    Thanks,
    SP

If your step-brother is financing your education and if he sending the sponsor papers like a financial affadavit for you to complete the course then you should mention his name.

But to my knowledge, that shows an immigrant intent, likely to get rejected once again Try to get the financial support from your parents like a CA statement and also try to overcome the first rejection reason .... since you have not mentioned what's the reason they mentioned which rejected ur visa

    hope this helps
    Aneesh.
