  • OPT Extension RFE

    Hello everyone,
I applied for my OPT Extension in the month of August,2012. I did my masters in Electrical Engineering (Major) with two courses from Computer Science ( Software Engineering & Data Management Systems). I was placed in a financial company as a software developer and working since a year. I got an RFE saying " You must submit evidence that your proposed employment is directly related to your are of studies, Such evidence may include documentation from you proposed employer describing in detail the duties of the offered position." I really appreciate any advice and help on how to proceed on this issue.

    Regards,
    John

Get a letter from your employer.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

      Hi Kabkaba,
Thanks for your reply. I already submitted the offer letter from my employer ( stating that I am an employee for that company and working as a software developer since a year) to USCIS while applying for the OPT Extension. Could you please explain about the letter which you're talking about. Once again, thanks for your help.

      Regards,
      John.

Get a letter that explains how your job is related. Is that not what the RFE asks?

          Hi Kabkaba,
Thanks for the reply. As I did two courses from computer science, my job work is mostly related to these two courses so I was wondering if these two courses would be good enough to say that " my proposed employment is directly related to the area of studies" .
          Thank you very much..

          Regards,
          John

OPT allows you to work in an area that is related to your major.

Running in circles here. You have the answer to your question in the RFE statement itself. Detailed description of your duties, and how it is related to your area of studies. Can your employer give you that? Talk to your supervisor and HR.
