I recently arrived to the US on a TN Visa on February 3rd, 2015. On February 5th, I applied for a SSN at the local social security office in the city I will be working in. I have a document stating that I have applied for the SSN, however, I need to wait ~2 weeks to receive the actual SSN card. This is all standard, I assume.
My question is: Am I allowed to leave the U.S. while my SSN card application is pending/being verified? I would like to head back to Canada this week for 3-4 days for personal reasons, and I have not been given any concise or clear information regarding this issue.
A forum I have looked at states that I should not travel while waiting for my SSN, while others I have contacted have informed me that my SSN application will not be affected.
Can anyone help me with this issue? Thank you so very much!
