Lawyer screw up - What to do?

Been employed legally since May 2005 on TN NAFTA. Adjusted to I485 Employment based permanent residency July 2007. Completed all documentation (medical, finger prints, etc) Received denial notice today. Reason is that visa was not renewed by lawyer during the I485 'status pending' period. I asked the lawyer about visa renewal issue when I filed for perm residency and was told I was legal and did not need to renew the visa while we waited for the I485 decision to be made. Now I'm illegal!? My bos is going to be pissed Monday morn (not at me). Any ideas what I should do now??
