  • Getting TN without informing ?

So I have a friend who is a Canadian living in USA, who is on his 3rd TN(all with different companies) and he said he only told the first company and once he had his SSN from that first TN he never mentioned about a Visa requirement to the 2nd and 3rd companies. He said after the offers he went and got the TN at the border with the offer letter he received. https://vlc.onl/

When I said isn't that illegal he said he isn't doing anything illegal and the TN is on the person not on the company. Has anyone heard of this before or is this not illegal ?

Each TN admission is for a specific company. If he went to the border and got admitted into TN for the new company, then that's enough. But if he only got admitted to TN once for only the first company, and didn't go to the border again (nor had the companies file I-129) for the second and third companies, then he cannot work for those companies.

I don't understand what you mean by "mention about a Visa requirement". He doesn't need to "mention" it to the company, except that the company will need him to fill out an I-9 when he starts work, and for that he would have needed to show his TN I-94, although I guess he might not have told them that the TN wasn't for that company.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
