ESTA Work Visa Extension

I am in America on a ESTA. I understand that I cannot get a tourist
visa extension.

But there's a company who is interested in sponsoring me. Can I get a
work visa though them while in the states?

Or do I have to go back to my home country and then apply for the work
visa from there?

what kind of work visa would you apply for? the most common work visa is H1-b, for which you can apply next time beginning in April 2013 for a start date of October 2013 or later. unless the work is cap exempt.

you need to give more information!

but to give you a short answer: no you cannot get a work visa while in the US. change of status from VWP to another status is inly possible in rare cases that do not include work visa applications.
