    Hi all,

I am planning to visit the USA for around 2 1/2 months and would like to use my girlfriends car for this period. Will my UK drivers licence be sufficient?

    Thanks,

    Leon

Yup, you'll be fine. The insurance will have to cover an extra driver, though. Also, if you can, get an international driving licence, but chances are you'll be ok without that. US cops won't want to deal with you. Too much paperwork.

So an international drivers licence would be the correct thing to have for 80 days driving in the usa? I may visit in the future, is it hard to get a us state drivers licence (nebraska) thanks for your help! I will get added on to her insurance too.

I doubt you can get one as a visitor. Anyway, you don't need one. I often take risks and avoid the International Driving Permit (IDP), and if I were you, I wouldn't worry about getting one. The chances of getting hassled without one are extremely slim. If pulled over, you'll most likely just be given a warning and sent on your way.
