I have a friend visiting me from Germany in March. He has a C1/D visa from when he was doing an internship/work on a cargo ship. The visa is valid until 2016 and was issued in 2006. Does he need to do apply to ESTA or simply travel on his C1/D because he technically has a visa? His trip will be for pleasure and not work.
