  • Mom's Visitor Visa

I am trying to invite my mother (widow)to the US for my Graduation. My sister lives with her husband in the US and she is a student as well. We are the only children.

The website states that it is difficult for widows to get visas. Hence I was wondering whether my mom should declare that my sister is here too or will it be better to not declare as it weakens my mom's case.

    Please advise!

    Thanks,
    Sarika

You cannot avoid it; A question on form DS_156 requires you to disclose the status of all your immediate relatives in US whether they are visiting, studying, citizens etc.etc. AND NEVER LIE ON THE FORM.

Suggestion; If you can think of a situation at home that would necessitate
her return like a job or a running business, or a good financial or
property base, she has better chances of getting the visa.Assured
return is what the consulars look for.

Let her tell the consular that she is only going for a month's (keep it
short for the interview purpose) visit to
meet her daughters as she is tied up in India with (job/
business/ other significant ties). She has better chances of getting
a visa if she can show a good asset statement of her own rather than
you sending an I-134. She can show that she has enough money to
sponsor her own trip. That also indicates to the consular that
she will come back to her assets. But if she cannot show the funding part
then you will have to send an I-134.
