Let me first thank immihelp for its detailed guide on the procedure to apply for a visa. Mom did not carry every document as mentioned on the site but substantial number of them.
Some special points
- Mother needed interview in Hindi
- Recently had a baby who was mentioned in I134 in the dependent section
- I work for my own company and therefore did not have formal paystubs as such.
- Dad already had a visa from 2 years ago
Docments that i sent:
-Tax return for last 2 years
-Copy of GC
-Original Birth Cert with notarized translation
-2 months bank statement with covering summary of accounts letter from bank on the bank letter head (showed about 30K)
-I-134
-Invitation letter (based on immihelp format - changed to suit my requirements)
- Letter to consulate (based on immihelp format - changed to suit my circumstances e.g. my own company)
-My company incorporation documents
- My company bank statement
- Copy of contract between my company and my client
- Check stubs of invoices paid by my client to my company (last 2 months)
Additional doucments that my mother carried with her
- Dad's income tax returns
- Property papers
- family photograph
- dad's paystubs for last 3 months
- Bank letters stating current balances
- Dad's passport with a valid US visa
Interview
Upon arrival in the visa section my mother asked to be interviwed in Hindi
Waited before being called relatively early. Interviewed at a window where there were 2 (one gentleman and one lady - both of indian origin). She was asked the following questions
- Whats the purpose of your trip? (A. Tourism and to meet my son)
- Has your husband traveled before to the US? (A. Yes, twice)
- Why did you not travel with him earlier (A. Busy here in India. Other son was studying)
- Do you have your husband's passport with you? (A. Yes, gives passport)
- Do you have invitation letter and Affadavit of support (I-134) (A. Yes. At this point my mom gave him the complete file that my dad had prepared with sticky post it notes. The officer flipped thru most of the documents that i had sent.)
The officer then pulled the I134 and kept it with himself. Mom told that visa is granted and passport will be sent home.
Question for the immihelp and readers - Have you heard about I134 being kept? Was that an oversight? Should i contact the consulate to retrieve it if possible? Is this a big deal?
Thanks to participants of this forum. I posted this long note so others in similar position can get some guidance.
