  • need immediate help : visa for USMLE CS exam

    Please help me!!!

I'm a medical graduate from India, preparing for USMLE. I have cleared my step 1 with high score and planning to give step 2 CS in march 2013 at Houston, Texas.

I have my cousin in New Jersey who is a green card holder and is married. My trip will be sponsored by my father. I'm totally new to these VISA issues.

few of my concerns while filling the online part are:

1 Is there any chance of rejection if I say that I will be staying at my cousin's place or should I make other arrangements myself?
    2. Should the port of entry and the place of stay match?
    3. If my father is sponsoring me, how much property does he need to show?? is there any minimum value?
    4. Which VISA should I apply for? B1/B2 or B1 or B2? I want a 10y ME.

    Awaiting your genuine response.

I suggest you book a hotel close to the exam center and show that you will be staying at the hotel. Hotels have deals for CS takers.
Do not talk much about your cousin unless asked.
    2. Should the port of entry and the place of stay match?
Not necessarily. This is not relevant for the visa interview , so think about it after you get the visa.
    3. If my father is sponsoring me, how much property does he need to show?? is there any minimum value?
Property is not important . His income is . They will ask what he does and how much he earns.
I suggest you should sponsor yourself if you have been working for some time and have decent income/savings.
Carry proof of income. ( dad or yourself).
    4. Which VISA should I apply for? B1/B2 or B1 or B2? I want a 10y ME.
B1 is business, so you opt for that on DS 160.
Do not make the mistake of asking them for a 10 year ME, let them decide that on their own.
