  • Tourist VISA - Mother

    Dear Advisor,

I wanted to invite my Mother to USA on tourist VISA. Due to Work, my father would not be able to accompany her. Hence I am planning to initiate my mother's VISA for the visit.

    Please can you advice,
    1. if I can only sponsor and initiate VISA for my mother?
    2. She is 61 Yrs. Do she need to appear for Interview?
    3. Since processing would be for Mother and she is housewife, which supporting documents do we need to provide?
    4. She does not have bank accounts or any property on her name in India, hence how to show India liabilities or ties.
    5. I have elder brother who is married and we all stay together and father also not applying for VISA, is that helps to show family bonding for reason to return. Family Tree etc.

Please advice the best way, I can handel this situation. Many Thanks!

Yes, mother will have to appear for an interview.
Yes, you can sponsor her alone.
If your dad or bro are earning very well , say 1lac/month family income, then they can
show funding for your mother. this will go in her favor if funding is shown from India.
In that case all you need to send is an invitation,
copy of your visa, and proof of your relationship to your mother.

If they cannot show funding, then you also send an I-134 and supporting finance papers.
Your mother will have to take with her proof of her husband's employment,
income and any property owned by him.
Though they do not look at any documents, she still must carry these.

They will surely ask why she is going alone. She must have a convincing answer.
You have not mentioned if you are a daughter or a son. If you are a married
daughter, sometimes the officers suspect pregnancy if mother is going alone
    and deny.
If they ask her how long does she want to go for, she should ask for a short stay
    like 2 months.

      Thanks for your response.

I am Son. Will that cause problem to have travel alone or should i try for both father and mother from VISA perspective, will that improve chances of approval?

If he is genuinely tied up, then it should not be a problem.
You know it all depends on how the applicant answers the qs, the officer and some luck.
