  • PLEASE Help I'M SO CONFUSED ABOUT B2 VISA

    Hi everyone,
    well basically I am a Jamaican national living permanently in the UK. I want to visit my brothers in April that live in America. So obviously I would need a b2 application. However my passport expires in July so I am wondering if I would be still issued the B2 visa. I only intend to stay for 10 days the most as I also study full time and work part time. I don't know what to do. Do I renew my passport and then apply for a b2 visa or can I go ahead and apply. I'm also worried about the longevity this process is going to take.

    Thank you everyone in advance.

    As you probably already know, Jamaican passport holders donot come under the 6 month passport validity rule, so you can go ahead and apply.

    Also consider this;
    If your case at the embassy is put under administrative processing ( 221g) , it can take several months in some cases.
    Also, if your visit to US is close to expiration of your passport, you will get a stay only till the expiry of your passport.
    Eg, if you enter US in June , you will only get a stay till July. While, other people can get a 3 month or a 6 month stay.

      Well thank you for this. I just wanted to know if I would still be able to apply. I am currently in the process of becoming naturalised as a british cit anyway, so it doesnt bother me how long the visa will be valid for just as long as I get granted the visa to visit my family for a few days. I'm going to fill out the online form today. My next worry is how long the actual process will take and cost.

      Thank you for replying. And if there is anything you think I should know about the process please let me know.

        Young foreigners living in UK and applying for a pleasure US visa (b2) are assessed stringently for ties to UK
        and may not succeed if they do not have any family and a permanent well paying job. ( you are a student).

        I suggest if your naturalization is not too far away, forget about this B2 thing and
        wait for it. As you likely know, you can use the visa-waiver on a UK passport.
