  • visitor visa for USMLE step 2 CS

    hello!

Can people interested in this issue post their experiences, suggestions and questions under this thread.......??

    My Question:

what are the chances for an unmarried unemployed chap [like me!] with good scores on step 1 and step 2 CK to get the visitor visa? Does the I-134 help or can it prove counter-productive?? any important issues to be taken care of??

Plenty of docs do get visas for CS and most of them are single. But do not
show that you are unemployed; show some private practice or something.
And Do not go for an I-134. The consulars expect a doc to pay for his own ticket and stay for a few weeks when he can pay $1200 for the test. If they ask you qs about your future plans; tell the consular you wish to return to India after residency training. That will prove your non-immigrant intent.Take some evidence of ties to India like property, investments, family business etc. Your good step1 and 2ck scores should go in your favour.
And if you get the visa expect an annotation about step 2cs.
    Good luck

      that's true

      hello pons,
yeah all the detailing by u is utmost relevant.to add (hardly u've left a room) expect visa for 3 months single entry or max 6 months duration. plan ur visit accordingly.
gud luck for step 2 cs exam.

        Hi all,
And most importantly, in your duration of stay column, don't ever ask for more than 1 week. If u ask for some longer duration, The Consular officer is going to doubt whether your intentions are really to take up only the exam or is it something else. They might even question you as to how a Doctor can take such a long break and you will be left without a convincing reply.
        All the best.

            no u don't have to

            hi rajiv,
the duration on visa signifies the last date of entry in us and the immigration officerdecides ur duration of stay and thatr may exceed the actual validity on visa!!!!!!
so as long as ur not troubled at the POE , jus keep ur cool and no needs for going to the embassy as long as u travel before the expiry of the visa
hope it helps. gud luck for step 3 and match

              hi

well, i m giving my step 1 in october , is that i can give my step 2 cs after step 1 , i mean,do i have a fair chance for a visa for step 2 cs after step 1 ?or should i have to complete step 2 to have a better chance for the visa?

my second question is ,is there any period of time where visa's r liberal for doctors , i m applying for 2007 match ,so is that the chances for visa in any particular month is high?cause this was being told by my friends , i wanted to make things clear.....

                Hello Karusmle,
Logic works here, dear; ECFMG does not require an order in which you take step1, ck or cs but with consulars it is a different story. They would expect a doc to first pass a test( ck ) that is available at home, than to risk a lot of money first with a more expensive step abroad(CS).

2nd q; Do not think so , but I'll let someone else answer that.

                    i'm a young,married surgeon,a big set up ;

1.on my ds 156 i mentioned duration of stay 1 month(but i also attached my detail itinerary showing that i will return in two weeks).i will stay with my bro in law there
2.my father and wife are also surgeons and we all work together in our setup ,my absence will be taken care of
3.my wife is pregnant and i will be back by any means before 5 sept as her EDD is around 10nth sep.

ive taken step 1 and step 2 but the score will not be reported by the time of interview.however i ve proof of taking both steps.

                    are these significant probs???anyone pls

                        dear friend

no doubt getting surgery is tough in especially if you are a fresher with no experience and have low scores.but indians do get surgery there. you stand a good chance if
u have scores in high 90s
postgrad in surgery from home country/or done preliminary in us if fresher

in my case i want to go for a short term fellowship in endo uro so that i may boost my setup

                          Hi Veena,
How do U propose to give your interviews ( for the match)after your step2CS if your proposed duration of stay that you choose to mention at the consular office is one week.
