  • Visitor Visa / High Risk Pregnancy

    Hello,

I am F1 student and currently taking a quarter off due to my high risk pregnancy. We have recently been given very bad news after the last check-up: Baby might not make it Crying my eyes out, but what can we do We are just waiting and praying hoping for a miracle to happen.

I really want to invite my sister to US for one or two weeks (who has a family, kids and job back home). If she comes for about two weeks, it would be moral support for me and help me go through this tough times. Since this is the first time that is happening to me, I am loosing my mind. Support and care she would offer from her experiences would really help me get through this.

What are her chances of getting a visitor visa if I provide a letter from my doctor and letter explaining the situation and needing moral support from her?

Thanks for your advise and help!

Usually they do not give visas for pregnancy related visits.
But she can try without disclosing this problem and try for a pleasure visit visa
for a visit in summer with her kids. ( she can apply now and once she gets the visa
she can travel sooner if she wants to).

but that is possible only if she has a strong family( huband + wife) income of 10L + /yr.
    BTW,
    1. Are you married? Is your husband or any of his family ( parents ) with you in US?
    2. What about your parents?

Peace999, thank you very much for your response.

      Few more questions:

      1. If she applies for pleasure travel visa, she has to apply with her husband and her child? Can she apply with her son? Her husband can't travel due to his job. I am sure she can show documents about her income and her husband's income. They make good living

      2. I am currently taking a quarter off due to high risk pregnancy. My international student advisor has sent my doctor note to SEVIS to get an approval for the quarter off showing that the reason is due to high risk pregnancy. If my sister goes to the interview and consular finds out that I am taking a quarter off due to high risk pregnancy, do you think this information might ruin her chances of her getting a visa? I am guessing that this information might be on my records already since my advisor has already sent the information to SEVIS. What do you think?

      3. I am married to GC holder. We both do not have any family members in US. What do you think the fact that I am married to GC holder might decrease her chances of getting non-immigrant visitor visa?

      4. I was originally planning to invite my mom once I deliver a healthy baby. But now, I am so afraid to even mention what is going on with my pregnancy. I am afraid that she might not able to handle well. I feel like my sister is the only one who can understand me among my other siblings since she herself had to go through some pregnancy losses before. I feel that I really need her by my side to be able to go through this. It is very hard to express what I am feeling right now. I don't wanna see anyone or talk to anyone else but my sister.

it is quite natural for someone to visit her sister in the US with her kid during summer vacation.
Husband not going is actually good as that leaves a tie in India.
But she must take care in asking a reasonable period of visit that matches her leave and kid's vacation.
I think one month should suffice.
( do not worry, the duration of stay is decided at the airport and not by the visa validity).

2 and 3 do not matter. I do not think they will verify your status if she can present
your visa copy and I-94 copy.

Visitor visa interview is mainly how and what you answer to the verbal qs of the officer.
Documents do not matter much and are rarely looked at.
        The main deciding qs;

        1. who is paying for the trip? ans. Me and my husband.
        2. what do you do and what is your income.
ans. xxx and we both earn xxxx /yr (a strong figure confidently given is the
        deciding factor).

        good luck
