  • Invitation Letter for Self sponsor

I along with my parents am planning to meet my brother who is on H1B. Since my salary is greater than 17L per annum, we are am planning to show self sponsor for our trip.

Since we are visiting my brother, I wanted to confirm if we need an invitation letter from him? Also what other documents from him do we need to carry. I believe I-134 is not required since we are sponsoring our trip.

    Yes, I-134 is not required.

You need an invite on his letterhead, a copy each of his passport , visa and I-94 .
Some proof of his employment ( letter from his employer).

Thank you Peace999, you have been very helpful. Since we are self sponsoring our visa, I am arranging for only following documents from my bother. Not bothering him to send his bank statements and salary stubs.

      • Passport photocopy (First 2 and last 2 pages)
      • Visa photocopy
      • Invitation letter
      • I-94
      • Proof of employment (Letter signed by his employer mentioning designation, date of joining and salary)

Wanted to confirm if he can email me scanned copies of all these documents and I present photocopies if asked for. Specially invitation letter, should that be in original? Am I missing on any document that I need from him?

For me and my parents I am carrying following documents broken into 3 sets basis importance:

      Set 1
      • Current and Old Passports
      • One photograph
      • DS-160 confirmation page
      • Original visa fee payment receipt
      • Interview appointment letter
      • Employer leave sanction letter

      Set 2
      • Salary slips 6 months
      • 6 months bank statement
      • IT return 3 years

      Set 3
      • Property papers
      • Demat account statements
      • Fixed Deposit
      • Mutual Fund
      • Salary breakup letter
      • First and last 2 page passport photocopy
      • Business card

All documents are ok. These days they usually do not look at any documents but you must carry them just in case.

Place the most important ones handy so you won't have to fumble at the interview.

Yur employer letter and income proof are very important. So is an invite from your bro.

Set 3 is least important . they do not look at prop. docs/investments but do carry them.

It is better to have an original invite. The rest of stuff from your bro will be copies anyway.

You do not have to worry about other financial details from your brother as you are self -financing your trip, just carry your proof, which has been already mentioned. Hope you will enjoy your journey.
