  • Interview after overstay; lesson.

Whatever you do , do not overstay your visitor visa by even one day if you ever wish to enter US again.
I did and I know what I went through. My overstay was 9 years ago and
I had a real urgent reason to go now. So I applied for a B1/B2 and I went through this pressure-cooker grilling at the interview, that I will never ever forget.
Nothing less than an interrogation with the secret service. And it lasted full 15 minutes!!! My last visit to US was dissected bare with every question in the book and every minute I felt I was going to be refused. And all through
I was scolded for abusing the US immigration law.
But I was lucky to get a 6 month single entry with an annotation since my visit reason was real genuine and I was honest disclosing my overstay.

    Congratulations Taco!
I do hope that the others who face similar problems have the endurance like you to patiently go through the grilling!!

      upcoming visa interview

      hello,
I overstayed my visa waiver earlier on this year by 90 days(girlfriend)
and i thought because i would stay under the 180 day barrier, it wouldnt
really matter that much. I made the mistake not to inform myself properly,
because now I know that its going to be not quite easy to go back.
Nevertheless I made an appointment and I am planning on going there
      this week.
Is there a certain of time you have to wait till you can apply for a new visa after you ahve overstayed?
What would help you chances at the interview??
Thank you so much, I am in a desperate situation, because my girlfriend
is still in the states and cannot leave the country.
What if I can prove that I have to go to college here in europe next month, would that help?

Like I said in my post, it is going to be hard.
There is no time interval required before you can apply, but applying quickly
        shows desperation.

        What may help you;
1 Do not say you are going to meet your girl friend. Think of another
reason that will really require you to be there, something related to
your career or your employment etc.

        2. And think of a convincing answer for your overstay. If you cannot,
say you are sorry to have made that mistake and it will not happen again.
Do not mention your girlfriend at all.If you do you will never get the visa.

3.College in europe will help. But to convince the consular you will
have to show payment of tuition fees/ enrolment.

        good luck.

          Hi master_t

I'm in somewhat of the same situation as you regarding travelling on a visa-waver and overstaying by only a few days earlier this year!

Can you update on how your interview goes this week?? I have an interview in a few weeks for a B2 visa but I don't know if it's such a good idea anymore, as the more I read, the more I believe they are going to reject me .
