Visitor Visa- 221g problem

Hi All,
My Parents had their tourist visa interview yesterday. My dad belongs to a Chemical profession and got a 221g pending administrative on his visa. Now the problem is that the questions and documents they have asked for are completely irrelevant to his case. They have asked to submit the name of the organization where he will be carrying his research, his research publications, sponsoring organization, his visits in other countries for research etc. We cant show any of these documents since he has never ever involved in any research and his purpose of visiting US is purely tourism.

Does anyone know how to answer these questions or has faced such a situation? My parents are old and this is their only chance to visit US which is making my family very nervous.

I hope your parents are in US now. If not can you please update your thread status.

My parents attended the interview at US Consulate Hyderabad, my Mother got the visa but my father visa is refused under 221(g).

My father is retired from Air force. 221g slip was issued on 03/25/2014. Any idea how long it takes for the processing in Delhi consulate?
