  • My mom's visa denied to come to my wedding in the US

    Hi,

I am originally from Republic of Georgia(former Soviet Union republic). I'm currently in the US on F1 visa status in graduate school. I'm getting married in May( to an american but it's 100% legit ) and I was hoping my mom would be able to come to my wedding here.

I send her the invitation through my university, invitation from me, my student status, bank statement etc.

When she went to the embassy the first time they didn't even ask her anything and gave her the rejection letter (214b) right away. She didn't even have a chance to present all that paperwork she brought with her for this. They just looked at ds-160 and shut her down.
She's retired and a widower. She owns an apartment there but that's the only really strong economic ties she has.

My other brother lives currently in Italy(also on a work visa) so that's another tie outside the US.

She's going to a go to the embassy again in a week and I don't know how to make sure she gets a proper review of her case at least.

Any suggestions from people who've been in similar situations ?
    Thanks a lot !

    As you likely know that

"widow + retired + both children away "

is a very bad combo for a visitor visa.

No matter what she tells them , they will always think she is not likely to return because of you
    settling down in US.

All she can do is try again, she may get lucky.
If your brother has plans to return she can show them proof of his returning from italy in
future (arranged future job at home )

Yeah, i figured it's not the best option. And my brother is not coming back soon either.

The funny part is they don't even know about me or him. None of that is in DS 160. All they really know that she's a widow and retired. They really don't know anything about children or her parents(which are not alive, but still ...). There's very little information in DS-160 and not ask any question in the embassy just doesn't seem right. Each situation for each person is very different and I'm sure there are people in similar situations who do get visas... I know many people around the world who's parents did get a visa and who's parents did not and no one really sure why... which makes the whole process really frustrating.

Anyway, just thinking if there's a way at least to force to listen to her before rejecting so that we don't just keep going there over and over without getting any answers...

WHy did she not mention about you in DS 160?
It is mandatory to declare any immediate relatives in US.

And did she not mention the purpose as 'visiting you for your wedding?"

Right, she mentioned me as a relative in the US but no one else. But they don't ask in the DS 160 about other children not in the US.

There's no place to put purpose of the trip anywhere in ds 160. You just put B2 and that's it.
